May 20 is World Bee Day. Global warming has not left them untouched, and their species is at risk of extinction. By announcing this day, which falls on May 20, the FAO hopes to promote their special characteristics and to promote their protection.
In addition to producing honey, bees play an important role in ensuring food security due to their role in pollinating about 80 percent of plants used by humans.
Creating jobs for young people is another benefit of bees, which is becoming more widespread as their other capabilities, including controlling pests in farms, become more prominent.
For this reason, FAO has named this year's World Bee Day "Bees, Related to Youth" and hopes to create a global movement to encourage young people to get involved in agricultural activities related to bees.
There is no doubt that in Iran, with its diverse climatic conditions, beekeeping can be a suitable job opportunity for the new generation, which can be implemented with little investment.
On the other hand, given the importance of bees in pollination and pest control, population decline and even the extinction of some species can cause great damage to natural resources and the environment. Therefore, it is essential to pay attention to the preservation of these valuable creatures, not only for food production, but also for the preservation of biodiversity.
Honeybees have long been of interest in Iran, and the Holy Quran's statement in Surah An-Nahl (The Honeybee) and its reference to it as a clear sign for the wise have increased this attention to the extent that most people do not consider honeybees to be pests or annoying insects and do not deliberately destroy them.
General recommendations for protecting honeybees:
• Plant flowers as much as you can!
• Do not destroy bee houses.
• Consume organic and natural foods and fruits that are produced by bee pollination.
• Buy honey and other bee products from local producers and the InHong Shop honey and organic products store.
• Do not use harmful chemicals and pesticides in farms and gardens.
